Tinubu Committed To Reviving Nigeria’s Economy, Turn Around Despicable Situation- Senator Karimi

Chairman of the Senate Services Committee, Senator Sunday Karimi has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited one of the worst economic problems in the Fourth Republic but he is committed to turn around the despicable situation.

Karimi, who represents Kogi West Senatorial District disclosed this at the maiden edition of Igbaruku Day organised by Igbaruku-Okeri Community Development Association (ICDA) in Igbaruku-Okeri, Yagba West Local Council, Kogi State during the Easter.

According to the lawmaker, the administration has exuded commitment towards rebuilding and transforming the economy to a virile, strong, self-sufficient economy.

He appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the president expressing optimism that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration was a long-term vision driven by proactive policy towards achieving sustainable economic recovery, and was already yielding fruits.

The senator explained that the process of achieving economic recovery should be seen as a collective effort both by government and the citizenry “Since government alone cannot make all that is good for the people happen”.

He urged the people to be patriotic and committed to the development of their communities, noting that with the citizens playing their parts, the economic challenges being faced by the current administration will be reasonably addressed with major successes and in the short-term.

“The government of Tinubu inherited a bad, in fact the worst situation, so far. Tinubu met the average gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate of 1.8 per cent. The four years average preceding the administration of Tinubu was 15.1 per cent.

“Nigeria was so bad that government printed money without activities to back it up. It is still our government, APC (All Progressives Congress). We admit that. Nigerian Naira was almost turned to paper, where one US Dollar equated 1900 Naira. But the Tinubu government is not resting on its oars.

“They are working tirelessly everyday to find solutions to the problems. Today, one Dollar equals 1,300 Naira. Port Harcourt refinery is back, Warri refinery is back. With patience with President Tinubu, we will live to see the Nigeria of our dream, in the short-term,” he said.

He assured of his commitment to the infrastructural development of Kogi West, adding that he would ensure that the Iluhagba-Egbe Federal Trunk A Road is rehabilitated.

He also promised that the palliative repairs ongoing will resume very shortly so as to help ease the transportation of farm produce as well as improve the economy of the area

The Senator, who declared his support for financial autonomy of local councils also said there the need for the sub nationals to drum support for the “State Police” proposal in order to ensure the security of lives, properties and the economy of the local communities, he noted that the security of all Nigerians is a major priority and would be treated as such by the national assembly so as to give proper legislation to it whenever it comes up for deliberation.

He prayed for the peace and prosperity of Igbaruku, Yagba, Kogi West and the nation at large.

In his response, the Onigbaruku of Igbaruku, Oba J.O Babalola, decried the fallen standard of public schools in terms of absence of conducive learning environment, infrastructure and dearth of teachers in the community.

He decried the lack of qualified teaching staff at the Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Oke-Eri and appealed to the federal, state and Yagba West local governments to also come to the aid of the community in the areas of education and youth development, security and environmental protection, health services and reticulation of borehole water and road construction with emphasis on Okutadudu-Iyamerin-Igbaruku-Odo-Ara-Omi-Ogga-Omuo-Ekiti Federal Road.

At the occasion, a 12-member committee (on) Igbaruku Council of Chiefs was inaugurated pursuant to Sections 7 and 8 of Kogi State Chiefs (Appointment, Deposition) and Establishment of Traditional Councils Law 2006; conferment of chieftaincy titles on individual contributors to community development projects and awards of excellence to individuals who have displayed outstanding leadership prowess.

Some distinguished sons and daughters of the community were honoured. G-60 Reps Coalition Bow To Authentic Chinda’s Led Caucus

…… Shun Proposed Media Briefing

The G-60 Peoples Democratic Party Opposition Coalition, described as fake by the authentic Hon Kingsley Chinda minority caucus in the House of Representatives has finally bowed to the superiority of the officially known and accepted leadership of the minority parties

At the House of Representatives Tuesday, the Ikenga Ugochinyere’s G-60 group which had previously announced a press briefing following the outcome of a meeting the group was to hold, declined to brief the media

The impostor group as they have come to be known and identified is a purported group of imaginary 60 lawmakers under the auspices of Opposition lawmakers coalition that boast of their numerical strength

They had last week threatened to quit the party if the doctored list of Caretaker Committees in Rivers and 10 other states which was filled with members and loyalist of the All Progressive Congress (APC) is not nullified.

But credible sources familiar with their activities have punctured their 60 acclaimed numbers, putting it at a misery 5nos

While the G-60 shunned an earlier press conference it initially scheduled, the third Regular meeting convened by the Leader of the Caucus and House Minority Leader, Hon. Kingsley Chinda held on Tuesday at House Committee Room 413, National Assembly Complex Abuja ahead of Thursday’s National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, was followed by a press conference

Though the G-60 could not advance any cogent reason for cancelling the press parley, after Hon Chinda had addressed the media , but news making the rounds had it that the press secretary of one of the G60 members had alleged that the meeting with the Minority Leader ended in commotion as lawmakers were sharply divided along the lines of pro and anti-Umar Damgun, the party’s acting National Chairman.

It was alleged from the outcome of the meeting that the move to pass vote of confidence on Damagun failed.

“We are glad that the plan of the pro- Wike group supporting Damagun fell like a pack of cards as we refused all entreaties to perpetuate illegality and stoking of crisis in the party. Our position remains that Damagun must go for someone from North-central to take over and complete Ayu’s tenure” the press secretary was said to have lied

Another quote linked to the group, also said “Our Party needs total overhaul and reformation. We currently have in the PDP a national leadership that is in bed with the APC and is working extremely hard to hand over the party to the APC. This is quite shameful disheartening. But we won’t fold our hands and let gat happen”.

But a very reliable source within the PDP disclosed that the meeting of the caucus went smoothly as they were all on same page.

Buttressing the position also were remarks credited to Kingsley Chinda, the minority leader while addressing journalists after the meeting

Chinda told newsmen that the PDP caucus was united, indivisible committed and out to perform its duty as the watchdog on behalf of Nigerians.

He said, “We have just concluded the third meeting of the People’s Democratic Party caucus in the 10th Assembly and have resolved to tell all of us and the world that we are United and we are one and remained United, indivisible, committed and out to perform her duty as the watchdog on behalf of the Nigerian people.

“In the same vein, we x-rayed the security situation in the country and resolved that we can no longer accept the situation where Nigeria is today tagged one life, one minute silence.

“The government is therefore called upon to immediately take steps to ensure that the security situation in the country is normalised and the caucus has also given a three month ultimatum for government to normalise the security situation in our country.

“After three months, the caucus will take further steps to sensitise and mobilise Nigerians to perhaps take their security in their hands.

The House caucus also agreed to call on all party caucuses, the Board of Trustees, National Executive Committee and the National Working Committee of the party to embark on reconciliation measures with a view to resolving all litigation that are pending and has hindered the party in any way whatsoever from having a substantive national Chairman.

“We call on our leaders in the PDP to continue to demonstrate unconditional loyalty to the party and ensure that the party reclaim her pride of place where she enjoyes the position of the largest party in Africa and to take back the Aso Villa which actually supposed to be our birth right.
Speaking on credible Opposition, he said:
“For us, we are going back as we resume the session to commence a strong, virile and purpose driven opposition to give the people a voice in the parliament.

“We also call on the Senate Leadership to please take steps to recall our colleague and senior brother, a veteran politician, a parliamentarian per excellence, Abdul Ningi.”

Those who attended the enlarged meeting of the PDP Caucus, among others , were the G-60 , who were seen present during the meeting and briefing , seated calm, putting fillip to why they backed down on the scheduled press conference.

Arrest Those Behind Ganduje’s Suspension-CAM

…….. Says Perpetrators Are Impostors Endangering Democracy

Members of the All Progressives Congress under the aegis of Concerned APC Members (CAM), have called for the immediate arrest of those behind the suspension of the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje, frowning at the development

They described the perpetrators as impostors who are endangering Nigeria’s democracy and must be brought to book

Recall that Ganduje was on Tuesday allegedly suspended by APC in his Ward in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the state.

The state leadership, however, denied the alleged suspension, describing those behind it as impostors.

Reacting to the development at a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, CAM, under the leadership of Okpokwu Ogenyi, called for the immediate arrest of those behind the alleged suspension.

Ogenyi said the perpetrators must be brought to book, to serve as a deterrent to others.

He said, “It is with rude shock, we received the news of the suspension of the APC National Chairman of our party, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje by some members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP who disguised as members of our party from his Ward of Kano State.

“The impostors even went far in using the name of our party’s legal adviser in Ganduje ward to announce the purported suspension of our National chairman without the prior consent of the said legal adviser even though a legal adviser lack the powers to suspend officers of the party hence such powers is vested on the ward chairman.

“Impersonation is a criminal offence punishable by law. We call on the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of State Security Service to immediately arrest the impostors and prosecute them to serve as deterrent to others willing to orchestrate such devilish act.

“If these impostors are not arrested and prosecuted immediately, in a short while, some members of the PDP or Labour Party may constitute themselves and suspend Mr. President from the APC.”
